Sam Lord's Beach, nestled on the southeastern coast of Barbados in the parish of Saint Philip, is a locale steeped in history and natural beauty. The beach is intimately linked to the legendary Sam Lord's Castle, a grand Regency mansion constructed in the 1820s by the infamous buccaneer Samuel Hall Lord. According to local lore, Lord amassed his wealth by luring ships onto nearby reefs using lanterns hung in coconut trees, subsequently plundering the wrecks.

The beach itself is characterized by its soft white sands and is divided into two sections by natural rock formations. While the Atlantic waters here can be rough and are not recommended for swimming, the beach provides a serene setting for picnics and relaxation under the shade of swaying palm trees. Visitors can still spot remnants of the old beach bar and dance floor, echoing the area's vibrant past. It's advisable to visit in groups and exercise caution when exploring the area.

Sam Lord's Beach offers a unique glimpse into Barbados' storied past amidst a picturesque setting.

Though the original castle was gutted by fire in 2010, its ruins remain a poignant historical landmark. In recent developments, the site has been transformed into the Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lord’s Castle Resort, an all-inclusive luxury destination that opened in late 2023. The resort offers modern amenities while preserving the rich heritage of the location.
