Osprey
PANDION HALIAETUS
The Osprey, also known as the Sea Hawk or Fish Hawk is a fish eating bird of prey. It is a large raptor, with brown upperparts and a grey-ish head. The underparts are white as well as the breast, which is sometimes streaked with brown. The eyes are golden yellow to brown, and the bill is black. They have long, narrow wings, a short tail, white feet with black talons. Both sexes appear fairly similar.
The Osprey’s diet consists almost entirely of fish. They hunt their prey from high in the air, plunging feet first into the water. They like
to nest in any location near a body of water that has an adequate supply of food.
