Ruddy Turnstone

The Ruddy Turnstone is a small stocky wad- ing bird. Breeding birds have reddish-brown upper parts with black markings. The plumage has a black and white pattern. The head is mainly white with black streaks on the crown. The breast is mainly black with a white patch on the sides. The rest of the underparts are white. It is a with a dark, wedge-shaped bill. The legs are bright orange and fairly short. The female and juvenile birds are paler. Ruddy Turnstones are migratory birds. They can be seen along coastal areas with sandy beaches, and rocky shores. They flip pebbles, rocks, and seaweed along shorelines in search of food.
