The Common Gallinule is a medium-sized marsh bird. Their plumage is dark with a white stripe down their sides and white outer tail feathers. Their legs are yellow and have a red shield on their forehead with a red bill tipped yellow. Juveniles are browner and lack the red shield.
Common Gallinules are found around well veg- etated swamps, ponds and other wetlands. The nest is a basket built on the ground in dense vegetation. They lay about 8 eggs that are In- cubated for about three weeks by both parents. They also make a wide range of gargling calls.
