Cattle Egret
BUBULCUS IBIS
The cattle egret is a stocky heron with a hunched posture. Non-breeding adults are mainly white, with a yellow bill and grey-ish
to yellow legs. Juvenile birds have a black bill. In the breeding season, adults develop orange plumes on the back, breast and crown. Both sexes are similar, but the male is slightly bigger.
Cattle Egrets are found in the tropics and can be seen feeding in grasslands, pastures and wetlands. They mainly nest in trees in colonies and the nest is built from sticks. They are often seen with cattle or other large mammals and feed on a wide range of prey, including insects, spiders, frogs, worms as well as small verte- brate prey.
