Bananaquit
COEREBA FLAVEOLA
The Bananaquit is a small passerine bird. They come from the tanager family. They have dark grey to black upperparts, a black crown with prominent white eye-stripes on each side of the head. The chest, belly and rump are yellow. Both sexes are identical. Bananaquits have a curved bill which they use to take nectar from flowers.
Bananaquits are seen throughout the year and feed mainly on the juices from flowers and fruits. They build a spherical nest with a side entrance hole in trees or bushes. Fe- males lay 1 to 3 eggs which are incubated solely by the female.
