The Black-Faced Grassquit is a small tanager bird. The male has olive green upperparts and grey-olive underpants with a black head and breast. Female and immature birds have paler grey underparts. Adults have a short black bill with an short curve downwards.
They are quite common and are usually seen in long grass or bushes in open areas. They feed mainly on seeds and are often found
in small groups when feeding. They make a domed nest out of grass which is placed low in a bush. Females lay 2-3 whitish eggs which are blotched reddish brown. The male gives a buzzing call when it is in a display flight.
