Barbados Bullfinch
LOXIGILLA BARBADENSIS
The Barbados Bullfinch is a seed-eater bird which is native only to Barbados. It is also the only endemic bird species on the island. It is not a bullfinch but a seed-eater and known locally as a Sparky or Sparrow. It is a small bird, with dark olive-grey upperparts, the wings are mostly brown, underparts are greyish. Both males and females are similar.
They can be found in grassy areas, forests
as well as gardens. A globular nest is built with a side entrance, often in a tree or shrub. Females lay 2-3 spotted eggs. They make call that is simple twittering and a sharp trill .
