Common Ground Dove
COLUMBINA PASSERINA
The Common Ground Dove is a small dove. It spends most of its time walking on the ground. They do fly and are often seen in pairs or in a small flock. They are grey or brown overall with feathers which look like scales. Males differ from the females by having a pink-gray colouration on their belly.
Ground Doves usually live in open areas with trees and bushes, or the edge of wood- lands. They forage on the ground and mainly feed on seeds, fruits and other vegetation. The nest is built in low vegetation or bushes. Females lay 2 white eggs which are incubat- ed by both parents.
