Rock Dove
COLUMBA LIVIA
The Rock Dove is a large-sized dove. The original wild species are pale grey with two black bars on the wings. The head is a dark- er grey with a reddish-purple iridescence along the neck. The legs are short and feet are red. Domestic and feral versions come in variable colours and patterns. Both sexes are almost identical, except for the female which has a less intense iridescence on the neck.
Rock Doves are found in open environments, mainly feeding on the ground in flocks or individually. They usually roost together in buildings or similar structures. Their nests are made of straw and sticks.
