Long-Winged Glasswing Bug
Liorhyssus hyalinus
Liorhyssus hyalinus , also called the long-winged glasswing bug , is a bug from the family of glasswing bugs (Rhopalidae).
The bugs are 5.9 to 7.1 millimeters long. They have a yellowish-brown to reddish base color and resemble members of the genera Rhopalus and Stictopleurus . However, this species can be distinguished from these by the very long membranes of the hemelytra , which extend well over the rear of the body. The upper surface of the abdomen is predominantly dark, and there are usually two dark spots near the posterior corners of the pronotum.
The insects are polyphagous , feeding primarily on members of the Asteraceae family, such as lettuce ( Lactuca ), sow thistle ( Sonchus ), chamomile ( Anthemis ), creeping thistle ( Cirsium ), and others.
