It has a typical mouse profile with a pointed snout, large rounded ears, and big eyes.
The fur is uniformly brown-grey, and its tail is long, almost hairless, and scaly.
House mice generally live in close association with humans, in houses, barns, and granaries, but can also occupy fields and wooded areas.
The species is often considered a pest.
