West Indian Bulimulus
Bulimulus guadalupensis
Bulimulus guadalupensis, commonly called the West Indian Bulimulus, is a small tropical land snail native to the Caribbean Basin. It likely originated in the Windward Islands and is now widespread throughout the region, with populations also established elsewhere, including parts of Florida where it is considered invasive.
This species has a slender, elongated shell that ranges from off-white to light brown. Many individuals show one or more brown spiral stripes running along the whorls, though the intensity of these markings can vary from faint to quite bold. The shell surface is smooth, and adults remain relatively small compared to many other Caribbean land snails.
Bulimulus guadalupensis lives in warm, humid environments, typically among leaf litter, low vegetation, gardens, and disturbed areas. Its ability to thrive in a variety of habitats has helped it spread beyond its native range.
