Barbados Sea Island Cotton is a species of cotton, in the mallow family. It is considered one of the rarest and most valuable varieties of cotton in the world.
It is a tropical, perennial plant that produces yellow flowers and black seeds. It usually grows as a bush or small tree and produces cotton with unusually long, silky fibers.
Barbados Sea Island Cotton actually originated in Ecuador and Peru, but is now cultivated around the world.
Some history for you. The term Gossypium Barbadense means "the cotton encountered in Barbados". It is credited to Carl Linnaeus and is now universally accepted.
