Ground crickets, also known as pygmy field crickets, are insects commonly found in pastures and wooded areas. These crickets can be heard chirping all night long. They make is a series of soft, high-pitched trills, which can become very annoying to people who are not accustomed to their sound.


Identification: They are normally 15–25mm long, and can be black, red or brown in color, depending of the species. Some species of ground cricket have three dark stripes on its abdomen.
