Long Pond
Long Pond
Long Pond is a secluded coastal pond located on the rugged east coast in Barbados, in the parish of St. Andrew. It is Fed by the Walkers and Bruce Vale rivers. Long Pond is one of the few remaining significant wetlands on the island, offering a different view to the nearby Atlantic coast.

Long Pond is usually full of brackish water, which is due to the sea water from the waves spilling over the beach sand and into the pond.

Long Pond offers a diverse range of habitats. This includes the pond, mangroves, marshy woodlands and sand dunes. These habitats support many types of wildlife like fish, crabs, shrimps, and various resident and migratory bird species. The beach also serves as a nesting site for leatherback sea turtles.

My visits to Long Pond were not as frequent as other locations. Access required a bit of walking across a sandy beach and sand dunes. It is a good idea to carry some water to keep hydrated.

The area itself makes great photographic opportunities. Landscape and Nature photographers would enjoy what Long Pond has to offer.
