Eared Dove
ZENAIDA AURICULATA
The Eared Dove is a medium sized dove. It gets its name from black lines which are seen behind its ear. They are close relatives of the mourning dove. The eared dove has an olive-brown upperpart plumage and black spots on the wings. The Tali feathers are long and wedge-shaped. There is a black line behind the eye, and a blue-black line on the lower ear coverts. The bill is black and the legs red. Females are duller than the males.
The eared dove can be found in savannahs and other open areas, and often close to human habitation. They feed mainly on seeds taken from the ground.
