The Virgin Nerite is a sea snail, from the family Neritidae. The shell is smooth and globular, with an oval appearance. The colour can vary from black, red, yellow, green, purple, with spots, patterns, bands or zigzag lines. The parietal shield is white and crescent-shaped. The inner lip may bear a number of small, irregular teeth or none at all. They are mainly found in brackish waters.
