Tailless Whip Scorpions
Tailless Whip Scorpions
Amblypygids, also known as whip spiders or Tailless Whip Scorpions are neither spider nor scorpion, but resemble a cross between the two. They are harmless to humans and rarely bite if threatened. They have no silk glands or venomous fangs. They are nocturnal and can be found in tropical and subtropical regions. The first pair of legs can stretch to as much as 10 inches and act as whip-like feelers.
IDENTIFICATION: They are 4-28 mm long with a flat body and have eight legs. There is one pair of eyes at the front of the cephalothorax and three pairs of eyes on the sides.
